ABU Nubian Guest House

ABU Nubian Guest House suits travellers on a budget who want a quiet Nubian village base, a kitchenette and the highest guest score in this guide. It does not suit anyone who wants a pool, a lift, or to step out of the door straight onto the Corniche.

Why stay here

  • The highest score in this guideABU scores 9.8 on Booking.com from 432 reviews (checked 11 Oct 2026), the top mark of all 20 places we cover in Luxor and Aswan. It is not a small sample either: 432 is the most reviews of the five Elephantine guest houses. Staff and value for money both sit at 9.9.
  • The cheapest night on the islandIt is price tier 1, at around €26 a night for two in mid-January 2027 when we checked, the lowest figure of the five Elephantine guest houses in the guide. Prices change, so check your own dates, but the gap with the Corniche hotels is large.
  • Rooms you can live inThe hotel lists a kitchenette, a balcony and a dining area in the rooms, plus a shared kitchen and a garden. For a longer stay, or if you want to cook your own dinner after a day at the temples, that is more useful than a minibar.
  • Pets are welcomeABU is the only place in our Aswan list that accepts pets, and it lists them as free. Every other Aswan hotel in the guide, from the Old Cataract to the other island guest houses, says no.

Good to know before you book

  • You cross by ferryElephantine is an island with no bridge to the city. You reach town on the public ferry from the Corniche, which runs often during the day and into the evening and costs a few Egyptian pounds, paid in cash. Late at night you may wait longer or need a private boat.
  • Simple, not a resortThere is no pool and no lift listed. The sauna and sun terrace are the extras. Facilities, at 9.6, is still its lowest sub-score after Wi-Fi.
  • Wi-Fi is the weak spotFree Wi-Fi scores 9.0, which is good for Aswan but the lowest mark on ABU's card. If you need to work online, its close neighbour Kashta (9.5) and Queen House (10) score higher on this point.
  • No child policy listedThe listing does not set an age from which children pay as adults. If you travel with children, ask before booking how the extra beds in the triple and quadruple rooms are charged.

Rooms

The smallest option is the double room (16 m²). The deluxe doubles, deluxe queen and deluxe double or twin are the step up for couples who want more space; the hotel lists balconies and kitchenettes across the rooms, so check the photos of each type to see which has the view you want.

For groups, there is a triple and a deluxe quadruple. A quadruple for four people is rare on the island: of the other guest houses in this guide, only Elephantine Island Guest House offers one, and Kashta has no rooms for more than two. Breakfast is continental and housekeeping is daily.

Getting there and around

From Aswan airport

The airport is about 15 km from the island in a straight line. Take a taxi to the Corniche (roughly half an hour, more with traffic) and cross on the public ferry, or ask the guest house in advance whether someone can meet you at the landing.

From Aswan railway station

The station is about 2.2 km away in a straight line. Walk or take a short taxi ride south along the Corniche to the ferry landing, then cross; with light bags the walk is usually 15 to 20 minutes.

To the sights

The Nubian Museum is about 0.9 km away and the Unfinished Obelisk 1.5 km, both on the east bank: ferry first, then a short taxi. Philae (6.8 km) and the High Dam (13 km) need a car. On the island itself you can walk to the ruins of ancient Abu, the town that gave the guest house its name.

How it compares
