The Aztec Motel & Creative Space

The Aztec Motel suits Route 66 travellers who want the best-rated night in Seligman, a short walk from the main street, in a small motel with shared spaces to sit in the evening. It suits less travellers with pets, families who need a cot, and anyone who wants a firm price months ahead: it had no rooms on sale for our January dates.

Why stay here

  • The top scores in SeligmanIt scores 9.2 on Booking.com from 626 reviews (checked 16 Oct 2026) and 4.9 on Google Maps from 461 reviews, the best of the Route 66 stays west of Williams in this guide. Staff (9.7), cleanliness (9.5) and location (9.5) lead its sub-scores.
  • On the main streetThe motel is on West Historic Route 66, about 0.2 km in a straight line from the centre of Seligman's strip of diners, souvenir shops and old motels. Seligman is where local shop owners founded the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona in 1987, and the whole strip is a walk from the door.
  • More than a roomAs its name suggests, it doubles as a creative space. Guests share a lounge, a games room, an outdoor fireplace and a picnic area, and the motel lists breakfast. That gives you somewhere to spend the evening besides your room.
  • Private entrancesRooms open straight to the outside, motel style, and have air conditioning, a desk and a streaming TV. Parking and Wi-Fi are free.

Good to know before you book

  • No price for January 2027When we checked on 16 Oct 2026, the motel had no rooms on sale on Booking.com for 12 to 15 January 2027, so we cannot give a price for those dates or place it in a price tier. The rooms may have been sold out or not yet on sale: try your own dates.
  • Pets are not allowedIf you travel with a dog, the Deluxe Inn, about 140 m away, accepts pets on request.
  • Wi-Fi is the lowest sub-scoreWi-Fi scores 8.8, the only sub-score under 9. It is fine for messages and maps; for video calls, plan on mobile data as a backup.
  • Check the timesCheck-in runs from 15:00 to midnight. The listing shows no fixed check-out time; confirm it with the motel when you book. There are no cots or extra beds, and payment is handled by Booking.com.

Rooms

The motel did not list room types for our dates, so we cannot describe the choices one by one. From its listing, rooms have private entrances, air conditioning, a desk and a streaming TV, and the shared lounge, games room and fireplace make up for the small size of a classic motel room.

All ages are welcome, but there are no cots or extra beds, so families should check that the room they book sleeps everyone. Search with your own dates to see which rooms are on sale.

Getting there and around

From Phoenix Sky Harbor

There is no direct road: drive north on I-17 to Flagstaff and then west on I-40. By our own estimate from the distances, that is roughly three and a half hours without stops. See Phoenix to the Grand Canyon.

From Las Vegas

Las Vegas to Kingman is about 119 miles (192 km) via US-93 (AAA), and Kingman to Seligman about 73 miles (117 km) and an hour on I-40 (James Kaiser): around 3 hours 20 minutes in total. The old Route 66 from Kingman through Hackberry and Peach Springs takes longer and is the reason most people come.

To the Grand Canyon South Rim

Mather Point is about 107 km in a straight line. By road, drive east to Williams (about 43 miles, 69 km, 45 minutes) and north on AZ-64 (about 60 miles, 97 km, an hour, according to the National Park Service): around 1 hour 45 minutes in all. Read Grand Canyon fees in 2026.

Along Route 66

Hackberry's general store is about 78 km west in a straight line and Kingman's Route 66 museum about 109 km. Our Route 66 road trip covers the stops in order.
