Why stay here
- A restored Harvey HouseLa Posada was designed by the architect Mary Colter for the Fred Harvey Company and the Santa Fe Railway, and built in 1929 and 1930 beside the tracks, according to Amtrak's Great American Stations and Historic Hotels of America. It closed as a hotel in 1957 and became railway offices. Allan Affeldt and Tina Mion bought it in 1997 and restored it, reopening the first rooms that year.

Good to know before you book
- The price is the highest in our Arizona guideIt is the only place in price tier 4, at around €216 a night for two in mid-January 2027 when we checked, converted from US dollars. Value for money (8.7) is its lowest sub-score after Wi-Fi.
- Wi-Fi is the weak pointFree Wi-Fi scores 8.6. It works for everyday use; for heavy uploads, The Winslow, about 2 km north, scores a full 10.
- Trains pass the hotelLa Posada sits beside the main railway line, and Amtrak's Southwest Chief stops at the Winslow station that is part of the complex. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the tracks.
- Far from the Grand CanyonThe South Rim is roughly two to two and a half hours away by our estimate, so La Posada is a night on a road trip, not a canyon base. Pets are allowed, with possible charges, and extra beds cost US$10 a night.
