Why stay here
- The highest score in this Arizona guideIt scores 9.4 on Booking.com from 4,063 reviews (checked 16 Oct 2026), the highest overall score of the Arizona hotels in this guide, and every sub-score is 9.0 or higher. Cleanliness and comfort lead at 9.6. On Google Maps it has 4.5 from 7,641 reviews.
- A hotel in its own forestThe hotel's own site says it stands on 500 acres (about 200 hectares) of private ponderosa pine forest and has been open since 1973. It is in east Flagstaff, just off I-40, so it is quiet without being remote.
- Big rooms, full serviceThe hotel's site gives guest rooms from 400 sq ft (about 37 m²), large for the region. It lists an outdoor pool, a fitness centre, a restaurant and bar, room service and a free shuttle to Flagstaff airport at set hours.
- Good value for its scoresIt is in price tier 3, at around €118 a night for two in mid-January 2027 when we checked, converted from US dollars, less than the big hotels at the park gate and close to Williams prices. Value for money scores 9.3.
Good to know before you book
- Downtown is a drive awayDowntown Flagstaff, with its restaurants and Route 66 main street, is about 3.0 km away in a straight line. That is a short drive or taxi, not an evening stroll, and the hotel works best with a car.
- Far from the rim for sunriseMather Point is about 106 km away in a straight line, and the National Park Service gives about 90 minutes from Flagstaff to the South Rim. A sunrise at the canyon means leaving in the dark; a day trip is the realistic plan.
- Cards only, no extra bedsThe hotel takes cards only, not cash, and it has no cots or extra beds, so a family needs a two-queen room. Pets are not allowed.
- The pool is outdoors at 7,000 ftFlagstaff sits at about 7,000 ft (2,130 m) and nights are cold for much of the year. The pool is outdoors, so if it matters, check with the hotel whether it is open during your dates.

Rooms
There are four room types in two categories. The Grand room comes with one king or two queens, and the Grand View room has the same two bed choices; read its description when you book to see what the extra cost buys.
For a couple, the Grand room with one king is the value choice. For a family, take a two-queen room, since there are no cots or extra beds. Check-in is from 16:00 and check-out until 11:00. With room service and a restaurant on site, it is easy to eat at the hotel after a long day at the canyon.

Getting there and around
From Phoenix Sky Harbor
I-17 runs north from Phoenix to Flagstaff. The National Park Service gives about four hours from Phoenix to the South Rim, of which about 90 minutes is the Flagstaff–rim stretch, so Flagstaff is roughly two and a half hours from Phoenix by our own estimate. Without a car, Groome Transportation runs about 13 shuttles a day from the airport to Flagstaff. See Phoenix to the Grand Canyon.
From Las Vegas
Take US-93 to Kingman, about 119 miles (192 km) and 2 h 20 min according to AAA, then I-40 east past Williams, which is just under two hours from Kingman, and on for 44 miles (71 km) to Flagstaff. See Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon.
To the Grand Canyon South Rim
US-180 runs north-west from Flagstaff to Valle and AZ-64, about 79 miles (127 km) and an hour and a half to the South Entrance. The Williams depot of the Grand Canyon Railway is about 52 km away in a straight line if you prefer the train; allow time before its 9:30 departure.
To Sedona and Meteor Crater
Uptown Sedona is about 38 km away in a straight line, down through Oak Creek Canyon: see our Sedona day trip. Meteor Crater, to the east, is about 57 km away.
