Why stay here
- At the gate, with full facilitiesIt stands on AZ-64 in Tusayan, the strip of hotels just south of the park's South Entrance, and Mather Point is about 10 km away in a straight line. Of the Tusayan hotels in this guide it has the longest list of facilities: indoor pool, hot tub, fitness centre, steakhouse restaurant, bar and tour desk.
- An indoor pool for winterNights at the South Rim drop below freezing from about mid-October, and in January the rim is often under snow. An indoor pool and hot tub are usable all year, which an outdoor seasonal pool is not.
- Comfort and location score highestIt scores 8.6 on Booking.com from 5,051 reviews (checked 16 Oct 2026), the largest review count of any Arizona hotel in this guide. Its best sub-scores are location at 9.4 and comfort at 9.1. On Google Maps it has 4.2 from 2,908 reviews.
- Rooms for families and groupsBesides king and two-queen rooms, it sells a two-bedroom suite, rare at the gate. Cots are free on request and extra beds cost US$25 a night, according to the hotel's policy on Booking.com.
Good to know before you book
- The most expensive canyon base hereIt is in price tier 3, at around €171 a night for two in mid-January 2027 when we checked, converted from US dollars, the highest of the hotels in this guide's three canyon bases, Tusayan, Williams and Flagstaff, for those dates. Value for money scores 8.2, its second-lowest sub-score. Prices in Tusayan rise sharply in summer and October.
- Wi-Fi is the weakest scoreFree Wi-Fi scores 8.0, the lowest Wi-Fi score among the hotels in this guide's three canyon bases. If you need to work or upload photos, plan on mobile data as a backup.
- Check-in age 21The person checking in must be at least 21. Pets are not allowed, which matters because a dog cannot ride the park shuttles either.
- Nothing to do in townTusayan exists to serve the park, and the free Tusayan shuttle into the park is not running as of October 2026; the park says it returns in summer 2027. Plan to drive in, and pay the entrance fees at the gate: see Grand Canyon entrance fees in 2026.

Rooms
The basic choice is the room with two queen beds or the king room. For a couple, the king is enough; for a family of four, the two-queen room is the usual pick, and the deluxe room with two queen beds is the step up if you want more space.
The two-bedroom suite is the room to look at for two couples or a larger family, since it avoids booking two rooms at gate prices. Check-in is from 16:00 and check-out until 11:00, so on a sunset-and-sunrise visit you can see the rim at dusk, sleep and be back at Mather Point at dawn before you leave.

Getting there and around
From Phoenix Sky Harbor

To the Grand Canyon South Rim
The National Park Service puts the South Entrance 6 miles (10 km) north of Tusayan, and Mather Point is about 10 km away in a straight line: usually around a quarter of an hour by car. For what to see once inside, read the South Rim viewpoints.

Williams, for the Grand Canyon Railway, is about an hour south on AZ-64, and downtown Flagstaff about 96 km away in a straight line, roughly an hour and a half by road.
How it compares
The Grand against its Tusayan neighbour and two bases further from the rim. The gap in price is the price of being at the gate.
